Getting Exposed to French Art at a Young Age

Getting Exposed to French Art at a Young Age

(Me as a teenager, striped shirt, in France) I grew up in a small farming town in Missouri, and I often felt completely out of place. Of course now that I'm older, it seems downright dreamy to live on a small farm outside of a small town. But back then, I was an awkward teenager trying to survive in a world that I couldn't relate to on any level. So I was drawn to whatever "culture" I could find, including art, music and FRENCH classes.  I was probably on my third year of French in high school, which was listed...

One of my first art purchases

One of my first art purchases

Everyone should own a piece of artwork, regardless of your age. Maybe 20 years ago, I bought this small piece of artwork at an antique store in Kansas City. I deliberated about buying it, and it cost me a whopping $40 (which was a lot for me at the time). But you know what? This vintage art has been with me all these years. Someone can easily spend $100 in a month for just coffee. And they have nothing to show for it later. This painting was created by Nicholas Takis (1903-1965). "This internationally renowned artist was born in New...

My New ETSY Shop

My New ETSY Shop

I have decided to add a second store to purchase my artwork, called Your Cottage Dreams on Etsy. This name may evolve over time, since I do multiple styles of artwork and it was tough to narrow it down from abstracts, florals, landscapes, or seascapes. What they all have in common is that I love the idea of a cottage style interior with beautiful original artwork. It's the notion that you can turn your own interior into a beach retreat bungalow, even if you're in the middle of Missouri.  My decision to add the second store was based on the...

My History With Floral Paintings

My History With Floral Paintings

It seems random to many of my Instagram followers that "suddenly," I'm doing a lot of floral paintings. But I've actually been working with various styles of floral art for ages. (Decades) I remember when I was probably about 10 years old. I did the occasional paint-by-number art, like many kids. I would save the unused paints from those kits since I was always working on some art project. I decided to paint some African violets on the side of an antique metal magazine holder that I covered in white spray paint. They turned out nicely, and I probably worked...

Now Accepting Commissions!

Now Accepting Commissions!

Previously, I didn't accept commissions for fluid paintings due to the fact it's almost impossible to predict the outcome for a painting. A fluid painting might end up totally different than what I might expect.  The artwork I'm currently accepting commissions for includes florals, landscapes and seascape paintings. I would need to know the medium such as acrylic or oil paint, the size and the surface medium (such as canvas or paper). It's also helpful if you can reference a photo on my Instagram account of a particular style you like. Generally more abstract artwork would be done in acrylic,...
